Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU)

Bahauddin Zakariya University is a public research university loacted in Bosan road Multan. It was founded in 1975. It is one of the largest universities of Pakistan. Although its original name was Multan University, it was renamed in honor of the Sufi saint Hazrat Baha-ud-din Zakariya as Bahauddin Zakariya University in 1979. It is a government university. BZU offers more than 65 majors including administration, law,pharmacy in different program, medical, engineering in different program, humanities, business relate to MBA, , BZU art, music, IT department, agriculture and languages. The University is located at a distance of 10 km from the city center on Bosan road. The main Campus is spread over 980 acres of land. The University has a fleet of 26 Shttule buses and 4 big coaches which provides Students and other BZU teaching staff transport facilities. The University start their working in full functional environment in 1975 in rented building with few (8) departments. Presently, it has more than 51 departments/institutes/colleges. Out of its 619 faculty members, 389 hold doctoral degrees and among it’s around 26659 students, half are female. In recent days according to the Times newspaper Higher Education new ranking system Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) ranked within the top 700 most suitable and good universities of the world. In recent General University category of  (HEC) ranked this university as the 8th  no.nationally.

The Chancellor of the University is Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana who is the Governor of Punjab. The Vice Chancellor is Tahir Ameen. The University has a total student enrollment of 35000 students. 21700 are undergraduates, 18000 are post-graduates while 300 are doctoral students. The university is affiliated with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).  All degrees award by the BZU university are recognized by  Higher education commision (HEC), PEC and PMDC.


The main objective of BZU (Bahauddin Zakariya University) is to provide facilities of higher education and research to the population of the southern region of the Punjab, covering the Civil Administrative Divisions of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan. The university BZU fulfills all function of teaching, affiliation with hec and an examining body, and has 80 affiliated colleges which include some old and prestigious institutions as the Government Emerson College Multan, Government Post Graduate College (Sahiwal), Government College Burewala co education, and the Nishtar Medical College Multan.

The main and original campus is located in Multan near DHA on  bosan Road but in order to improve the academic facilities in remote areas of Punjab, sub-campuses were established in the following areas with a vision to upgraded them into full independent universities in coming future:

BZU Admission Procedure

You can apply for admission in two sessions; First in spring session and autumn session. Currently spring session 2018 is going on and admissions for post-graduate and doctorate programs are open. Student admissions usually take place August and September for the fall semester. M.Phil and distance learning programs have admissions in January and February for the spring semester.
