University Of Sargodha
University of Sargodha is a public research university located in Sargodha. It was founded in 2002. Its origin is De-Montmorency College which was established in 1929 and was renamed as Government College Sargodha in 1949. The college was awarded university charter in 2002. Its first acting chairman was vice chancellor Riaz-ul-Haq Tariq. The university has eight facilities and 137 programs, of which 53 are for M.Phil and PhD. 400 educational institutions are affiliated with it. The university has 25,976 students and 657 faculty members, including 279 PhD. The University offers modern teaching, research and lodging facilities to its students and scholars, including well equipped classrooms and research labs, rich library resources with online access to books and journals, as well as a secure and serene environment for sports and co-curricular activities. With an affordable fee structure, it provides a host of scholarships, internships and business opportunities to deserving and competitive students. The campus life remains busy with scholarly events during each semester, and students have ample avenues to harness their untapped talent and youthful energy. The University also runs an FM radio station, offering infotainment to the youth.
The university has a total staff of 460. Total students are 28342, amongst them 10000 are undergraduates and 1200 are postgraduates. The university colors are Yale blue, metallic gold and silver. The university is affiliated with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore. Their mascot is Kiranians. Their official website is www.uos.edu.pk.
The university is composed of the central campus in Sargodha, and seven branch satellite campuses located in Faisalabad (Faisalabad Satellite Campus and Women Campus Faisalabad), Lahore, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali and Bhakkar.
Community Service Programs
The university has its own FM radio station for infotainment of the students and staff. Several aid programs are in place as well: university-level education is being provided to orphans and to those who have memorized the Quran for free.
The University Medical and Diagnostic Centre and Model Pharmacy treats inhabitants from the region for nominal fees. Barring just four, all tests conducted at Pakistan’s leading laboratories, those of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and Aga Khan University, are also conducted at the University of Sargodha’s laboratory. Besides pharmacy counseling, standard medicines are available for cheaper rates to locals.
